Dear friend,
We're officially out of retrograde, and I'm feeling the collective exhale. But before we rush forward, I want to pause and honor something powerful that's been stirring in me lately - the absolute magic of our words and how they literally shape our reality.
When Our Words Become Our Prison
My incredible sister gifted our family The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, rooted in Toltec wisdom from Central America. The first agreement? "Be impeccable with your word."
This hits me HARD when I realized how many of us (myself included) were saying things like....
"Ugh, it's a hard time" or "Retrogrades always f*ck me up."
When we speak these words, we're programming our nervous system to expect struggle.
We're devoting our energy to limitation instead of possibility.
Deeper Than "Regulation"
Before clinical language appropriated the indigenous practices of nervous system regulation through "polyvagal theory," our indigenous ancestors called "regulation":
- Smudging to clear energetic stagnation
- Fire circles in the community
- Drumming to re-pattern heartbeat & brainwaves
- Breath and being heart & seen by our relatives
(more on decolonizing the "polyvagal theory" from @sacredrelatives on IG)
The Stretch That Makes Us Stronger
Yes, these last few weeks may have been challenging. But what if - we acknowledged how they stretched us?
Maybe you were reminded of what's really important to you.
Maybe you got crystal clear on what you want to focus on.
Maybe you discovered parts of yourself that only emerge during times of beautiful yet often brutal change.
This is the power of reframing through our words.
No, not toxic positivity, but honest recognition of how challenges serve our growth.
When One Person's Words Change Everything
Speaking of powerful words... this week was my sister's birthday, and I'm feeling so full thinking about how her words saved my life.
During my darkest period in severe eczema, a corporate job in the entertainment industry, when all I wanted to do was hide, I told my family there was nothing that could help me.
My sister looked at me and said, "There has to be something else, there IS something we haven't tried, we just get to find it."
She had the energy to research when I had none. Her words opened up the truth that I would be okay, which led to hearing encouraging words from holistic practitioners, and eventually from myself.
One sentence.
One moment of refusing to accept my limitation.
Everything changed.
To celebrate her birthday and the power of words, I re-launched an updated version of "Sort of Sattva" Episode 2, where I highlight this story of how my life transformed (check it out at 11:11 - ;p classic).
What "Sort of Sattva" Really Means
And as so many of you have asked... HERE WE ARE!
I'm premiering Episode 3 Part 1, where we dive into what "Sort of Sattva" actually means and why being "unbalanced" might be exactly the answer you're looking for.
Also available on Spotify while we are still on it.
Your Words, Your Power, Your Choice
Right now, whatever you're feeling is completely valid.
The world feels intense. Politics is rooted in fear-based tactics designed to make us forget our power and ultimately, this is unsustainable but will open our eyes up to what we REALLY believe and want to create.
(Hello, Fourth Agreement: "Don't take anything personally" - these systems aren't about YOU, they're about control).
But here's what I know: just like retrograde, this shaking up is FOR something powerful, something positive. Brutal yet beautiful.
And you get to be part of it, the more real you are with your heart, your true north.
So I'm inviting you to drop in & stock:
- What words are you using about your life, your body, your possibilities?
- Are you speaking limitation or expansion into existence?
- What encouraging words do YOU need to hear right now?
As the Toltecs know, our words are spells.
Let's cast good ones.
Trust the process, trust your power, trust your truth.
xxo,
Veronica 💫
P.S. If you're feeling called to dive deeper into how your words and thoughts are shaping your health and life, I have 3 spots opening up for 1:1 work next week.
Sometimes we need that loving witness (like my sister was for me) to help us see what we can't see alone.
Reply or schedule a drop-in if you're curious.
